As a design-oriented company Bentley takes its aesthetics seriously. It's evident in the exact positioning of its quilting, the choice of leather sourced from the by-products of cattle, timber from forests that are sustainably managed and the innovative patterns on its levers. A car like the Continental GT W12 beckons as you walk up to it with its striking sculptural appeal and power by carefully curated lighting.
The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top Bentley ever made. The rear tonneau of the Continental GT, for instance it was the biggest piece of dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer that was book-matched. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.
It is this unique design, quality and attention to detail that have established Bentley as the most sought-after automotive brand. The company continues to push the boundaries with the latest technology and workmanship, such as the introduction of an instrument cluster with digital technology with an electric tilt-opening back glass sunroof and a crafted docking station for Apple iPads, and electrochromic glass that can be changed from transparent to opaque with the push of an arrow.
A century after its inception, Bentley - now under sole Volkswagen ownership following years of wrangling with BMW was able to celebrate its centennial in 2019. Prior to pandemic planning taking center stage, the marque had a range of special events and launches planned to celebrate the occasion.
Design
Bentley is known for its lavish and extravagant cars and even the keys are made to stand out. The Bentayga Key is made of sterling silver, and has the large B' logo to let everyone know that you're driving a Bentley. The key is also inscribed with the dates 1919 and 2019 to mark the company’s centenary.
Bentley Mulliner redesigned and developed the Mulsanne to become the ultimate Grand Touring vehicle. The rear seats were designed to provide passengers with the most comfortable and private experience. They were inspired by the luxury private aircraft. The bespoke heating and ventilation as well as air conditioning system was developed to give each passenger the ideal climate control settings.
In addition to a set of exquisitely executed styling tweaks The Mulsanne is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre W12 engine that can produce 560bhp as well as 479lbft of torque. This power is paired by a new suspension system that provides Bentley's trademark smooth ride.
Bentley has launched a new specification for cars built after the year 2019 to commemorate its centenary. It is known as the Centenary Specification. The cabin is decorated with cross-stitching as well as contrast stitching in Centenary Gold throughout. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are embroidered in Centenary Gold, adding to the sense of celebration. The Centenary Specification also includes a personalized Bentley keycase to complete the Bentley experience.
Function
The Bentley Mulsanne Key features two buttons: one that opens the trunk, and the other which starts the vehicle. The key also comes with a switch that allows you to turn on the parking brake. There is a knob to fold and unfold the mirrors when parking in tight spaces. Using this feature can aid in getting in and out of your car more quickly.
The key is constructed from vegetable tanned leather. It takes two days to make each one. The key is cut by hand, shaped by hand, stitched and sealed, then polished to produce a premium result. It is sturdy and compact, and will fit the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar with the Volkswagen Phaeton's massive car key, but feels heavier and more premium.
It is also equipped with Secure-A-Key, which helps prevent theft of keys that are keyless. This device is inserted inside the remote-control key fob. It is turned off after a few minutes of inactivity. bentley flying spur key prevents thieves from transmitting the frequency of the key to other devices that are able to unlock and start the vehicle.
Bentley's unique design is a reflection of the values of the company that include high-quality craftsmanship and engineering expertise as well as cutting-edge technology. Over 4,000 people work at the Crewe headquarters, where they are responsible for the development, design and production of Bentley automobiles. These workers apply the skills that have been passed through generations to modern automotive technologies. This is British manufacturing at its best.
Personalisation
Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to design their own vehicle. The guests sit at a collection of images called "mood stations" and pick a collection of photos - from scenic views to sporting events that inspire them. After each selection is made, a pattern is created and reveals the model and color preferences for the customized Bentley.
The resulting configuration is saved to individual R.F.I.D.-enabled key cards, which are presented to the guests in a custom key case. The keys are also equipped with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps that illuminate the door's opening path with the owner's name or emblem when they arrive at the vehicle.
Bentley says it takes roughly 500 man-hours to design and put together the typical Mulsanne. The reluctance to embrace modern technology is the main factor to this laborious task. Instead of using a machine to place the perfectly-matched leather seats, workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. Drivers have to park their cars manually, instead of using sensors built into the vehicle to guide them into perpendicular and parallel spaces.
